Redesigned in 2010, the BMW 7 Series is currently offered in the largest selection of model configurations in the vehicles history. For 2012, four powerplants, two wheelbases and the choice of rear wheel or BMWs xDrive all-wheel drive defines the BMW 7 Series sedan. Powered with a 3-liter six-cylinder sending 315 horsepower through a 6-speed automatic, the entry line 2012 BMW 740i includes rearview camera, Dynamic Damping Control, cruise control, two-way power moonroof and a hard drive-based navigation system. A 4.4 liter V-8 engine is a popular choice on the 2012 BMW 7 Series. Generating 400 horsepower by itself, the BMW ActiveHybrid7 model marries the engine with an electric motor for a combined 455 horsepower. A 544 horsepower V-12 engine is also available with the 2012 BMW 7 Series on the 5.5 inch longer wheelbase version. All 2012 BMW 7 Series models fitted with a V-8 or V-12 powerplant operates through an 8-speed automatic transmission. Provided through BMW dealerships, an aftermarket tuner version from Alpina allows the 2012 7 Series to take on a strong performance identity. Alpina B7 is also available in the United States generating 500 horsepower from the 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine.
