Do electric cars use oil if they’re fully electric? Bloomington drivers are often glad to find out, in the case of fully electric cars, oil change costs are not even a consideration. But, what if they’re not fully electric? Do electric cars need oil if they’re hybrids? Hybrids are a little different. Let’s talk about how these cars differ and what to expect as far as oil changes and other maintenance.
As you may know, a fully electric vehicle like the BMW iX or the BMW i4, does not have a combustion engine but has an electric motor instead. So, do electric cars use oil? No! This is one of the advantages of electric cars. Oil change costs are not something you have to worry about to keep it running on the Normal roads. You will need to rotate and replace the tires, just as you would on a conventional car. But, there are very few maintenance costs for the most part.
What about hybrids? Do electric cars use oil if they’re not fully electric? This is one of the differences between hybrids and fully electric cars. Oil change appointments will still need to be scheduled, along with other maintenance tasks. Why? Because a hybrid car has both an electric motor and a gas combustion engine. These two components work together to deliver a much more fuel-efficient performance than a gas engine by itself. But, that means that all the maintenance that needs to be done for a conventional vehicle that runs on a gas-powered one would need to be done on a hybrid car.
